Is this game open world or hub based?

It's a little confusing at the moment when I see statements like this:

    "KEEPING IT PERSONALIZED
Most of A:IR’s content is highly customizable, allowing players to tailor detailed aspects of their play experience and unleash their creativity. An airship, for instance, can have its type, appearance, color, and performance modified. Players can even create their own quests, alter their hunting grounds, and change the difficulty when battling monsters in dungeons or hunting areas."

Changing the difficulty in dungeons (if instanced) makes sense, but hunting areas? I don't see this working unless it's hub based or phases you out of the "public" area when you change difficulties.

Also, is there a faction system? Or is RvR similar to GW2 and just instanced?

    Open world PVP or no?

Open world housing or is it instanced? It looks open world in the reveal trailer.

Instanced or open dungeons? Or both?

I want to be hyped for this, but certain things from the available information make me think this is gonna just be a hub based "MMO".

Also, please don't gender lock classes. At least add a variant for both genders (BDO ninja and kunoichi). It seems like they are at the moment, if not, it should be specified. <3

I don't know about the open world thing, but seems that classes may be genderlocked.

Yeah, it's a shame. Hopefully they'll at least do what BDO does and have variants for both genders for some classes.

I'll be honest, if it isn't open world, I'll probably pass.
I really just don't see how that difficulty setting could really work in an open world MMO, especially one with open PVP, assuming this will have OWPVP since PVP seems to be part of their main pitch.

It does not seem like having an instance based model fits with the design of this game. In the media thingy they show big chunks of map and I think I saw something about housing, so in the worst case scenario we'll get a "TERAlike" map.

Yeah, I mean the game design itself and its whole premise definitely screams open world, I just don't see how the difficulty changing could work in anything other than instanced dungeons/content, you know?

I dunno though, it could be hub based and just have HUGE areas to explore. Something like Anthem, maybe?

I would definitely prefer open world for a game like this though, and since some TERA people are supposedly behind it, I'd expect as much.

With airships, jet packs etc. I think we will get open world game. Who want to use/fight airships in smaller instance areas cut from game world ? Something like that should be happening in game world where other players can see how guilds fight above their heads.

Even trailer show that this game should have big open world, with massive battles in the sky.

The only question is housing as I don't mind to see open world housing but fear in time it will change into second SWG where you will see everywhere many empty houses or ghost towns.

its going to be interesting to see how this all works. tho if its anything i enjoyed more was BDO's flowing combat action style. with terra devs and bluehole working on this.. err im unsure. terra wasn't exactly renowned for its flowing combat.

was still fantastic none the less but compared to BDO i prefer BDO. only thing they need to get right is targeting

Maybe I should clarify what I mean...

When they say RvR, I picture GW2, queuing into a massive PVP arena.

When they start talking about changing the difficulty in hunting areas, I can picture this scenario:

    1) Start in city, form a group.
    2) Leave city into VERY large instances, select difficulty upon entry.

It could just be poor wording on their part though.

As far as ghost towns, as long as they put in a housing decay system, it should work out. Like if you don't log in for a month, your house is gone.

About BDO's combat, it is definitely good, but after playing a few action MMORPGs, I have to say that I personally am beginning to feel like action combat is overrated. Or it hasn't hit its "final form" yet.

I also hate how easy BDO's PVE is.

I'd probably enjoy BDO's combat and PVE more if the monster AI/movesets were better.
Because it's basically just run in, CC, aoe everything down, regardless of class.

If MMO's are going to keep going action combat, they're going to need more emphasis on class variety and strategy than BDO has. BDO has subtle differences between the classes, but it's not quite enough for me. It's basically just memorizing different key combinations for the same result, rather than learning the ins and outs of your job/class. You literally just learn your CC>DMG rotation on every class, for PVP and PVE both. Once you can play one, you can play them all.

    I see what you mean.
RvR is most likely instanced like in GW2 indeed.

Regarding the hunts, if you can set the difficulty it would mean that players from outside of your group cannot interfere. So I imagine it as you described, instanced as well, exactly like Dauntless actually.

Hopefully most activities are open world though!

And looking at the trailer, It's pretty easy to hint that there's an openworld, how much content this world offers yet though, I can't tell.

Atleast the trailer show us various activities and that's pretty rare to see so many things in a first video.

If its gender locked, I might pass up on this, despite it looking epicly fun.

I would personally like to see the game have an open world setting, but large instances could also be nice if they have short loading times such as Blade and Souls systems - though, Kakaogames did a really nice job with Black Desert's open world, so this could be very nice if done in that fashion, as well.

I'd like to see a nice big open world to explore instead of having to go through hubs and lobby surfing while it can be fun at times I prefer being able to go for a wander and explore place and find neat little spots to hide in :D

The more information I see, the more I think it's going to be totally open.

But either system could probably work if done correctly.
Just some confusing wording in that one article.

Also, Kakao is the publisher, Pearl Abyss are the devs for BDO ^^

I strongly hope AIR has a completely open world for us to explore.

Open World is part of the new trend and this is what I'm also looking though I don't mind if it's not fully open (we obviously need dungeons and raids with a good stability).

Yeah don't get me wrong by open world I mean a big old open space we can climb and explore I miss the days you'd spend an afternoon trying to find ways to climb up the mountains to get to places you shouldn't be able to get to (granted kind of pointless since we can fly, but the point remains) big open world to explore and dungeons etc to go raid too!
